New Fleet Guides, Hidden Truck Wear, and Driver Fit Lead This Month

In this month’s Truck Chat Top Monthly News Recap, we’re taking a closer look at the details that can get overlooked when choosing, maintaining, and operating a work truck.

A spec sheet can help narrow your options, but it won’t tell you how comfortably every driver fits behind the wheel. An odometer tracks distance, but it can miss hours of stationary work. And being under a familiar weight threshold doesn’t answer every registration question before a truck crosses state lines.

We start with a new resource for those vehicle decisions. Work Truck has launched its Fleet Guides series, bringing specifications, configurations, capability, technology, and model-year updates together in pages we’ll continue updating as information becomes available. The first six cover the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, Ram ProMaster City, Isuzu N-Series, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500, with more coming soon.

Vehicle selection also gets a more personal look in why short drivers need to be part of the work truck spec, too. Seat adjustment, pedal reach, visibility, and getting in and out deserve attention before an order is placed. Bringing drivers into the evaluation can reveal everyday challenges that a brochure won’t capture.

From there, we explore the hidden cost of idling. A low-mileage truck can still accumulate substantial engine hours and wear while powering equipment or supporting other job requirements. The article looks at why duty cycle, maintenance history, idle time, and downtime belong alongside mileage when fleets evaluate vehicle condition and replacement timing.

Compliance is another area where one number may leave questions unanswered.
