The Isuzu Truck North America N-Series Gas lineup is a family of Class 3 through Class 5 low-cab-forward commercial trucks designed for a wide variety of vocational and delivery applications. For the 2027 model year, the lineup consists of the NPR, NPR-HD, NQR and NRR, with standard- and crew-cab configurations available. Isuzu offers six wheelbases across the lineup, ranging from 109 to 212 inches.

All four models use a GMPT L8T Gen V 6.6L gasoline V-8 rated at 350 hp and 425 lb.-ft. of torque. Isuzu states the engine has a 200,000-mile design life.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas At-a-Glance Fleet Specs

Isuzu's 2027 Full-Line Pocket Guide identifies the gas lineup as the NPR Class 3, NPR-HD Class 4, NQR Class 5 and NRR Class 5, with three-passenger standard cabs and seven-passenger crew cabs. Detailed Isuzu specifications list GVWRs from 12,000 to 19,500 pounds and GCWRs from 18,000 to 25,500 pounds.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas Engine and Powertrain

The entire 2027 N-Series Gas lineup is powered by the naturally aspirated GMPT L8T Gen V 6.6L V-8. The 400-cu.-in. engine produces 350 hp at 4,500 rpm and 425 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,800 rpm. Isuzu describes the engine as having a 200,000-mile design life.

The NPR and NPR-HD use the 8L90 Hydra-Matic eight-speed automatic with a lock-up converter and overdrive. The higher-GVWR NQR and NRR use an Allison 1000 RDS six-speed automatic.

The four models share the same 6.6L V-8 but differ substantially in chassis ratings, axle capacities, suspension capacities, tires and transmissions.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas Configurations

One of the primary advantages of Isuzu's low-cab-forward layout is packaging efficiency. Isuzu said positioning the cab above the engine provides more cab-to-axle space than a conventional cab with an equivalent wheelbase, helping accommodate longer bodies. The company also pointed out that body sizes can reach 30 feet across its broader LCF offerings.

For the N-Series Gas specifically, six wheelbases are used across the lineup:

Isuzu lists standard-cab body lengths ranging from 10 to 24 feet and crew-cab body lengths from 12 to 20 feet, depending on model and wheelbase.

All configurations use 33.5-inch-wide frame rails.

Payload, GVWR and GCWR

Unlike a pickup, where payload and trailer ratings often dominate fleet specifications, Isuzu's cab-chassis configuration makes body/payload allowance particularly important when matching the truck with vocational bodies and equipment.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas Payload Capability

The highest published body/payload allowance is 13,611 pounds for a standard-cab NRR with a 132.5-inch wheelbase. Its listed curb weight is 5,889 pounds against a 19,500-pound GVWR.

Body/payload allowance declines as chassis weight increases, making exact wheelbase, cab, and installed-body configuration important when spec'ing a truck.

These figures are chassis/body payload allowances before accounting for the final body, vocational equipment, cargo, occupants and other installed equipment.

Axles, Brakes and Suspension

Rear axle ratios vary with chassis rating. The NPR uses a 3.909 ratio, the NPR-HD a 4.100 ratio, and the NQR and NRR use 5.375 ratios.

All four trucks use tapered/multi-leaf suspension. NPR and NPR-HD suspension capacity is listed at 6,830 pounds front and 12,900 pounds rear, while the NQR and NRR increase those figures to 8,440 and 14,550 pounds.

The N-Series Gas uses four-wheel disc brakes with vacuum and power assist and four-channel ABS. Isuzu's overview additionally identifies Electronic Brakeforce Distribution as part of the braking system.

A limited-slip differential is available as an option across the gas lineup.

Fleet and Work-Related Features

The N-Series low-cab-forward configuration is designed to maximize visibility and maneuverability. Isuzu says reduced forward mass improves forward visibility compared with conventional-cab trucks, while the cab-over-engine layout can provide more cab-to-axle space at a comparable wheelbase.

For fleets operating in urban areas, delivery routes and confined worksites, the LCF layout also contributes to a tighter turning radius and shorter overall vehicle length for a given cargo-body size.

A 38.6-gallon in-frame fuel tank is standard across NPR, NPR-HD, NQR and NRR gas models.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas Warranty

Warranty coverage varies somewhat between NPR/NPR-HD and NQR/NRR because the Class 5 models use Allison transmissions.

Basic coverage is three years/36,000 miles. Engine and drivetrain coverage extends to five years/75,000 miles.

NPR and NPR-HD 8L90 transmission coverage is five years/75,000 miles, while the Allison transmission used by NQR and NRR carries five-year/unlimited-mile coverage and is warranted separately by Allison.

Isuzu also lists an available extended warranty of five years/150,000 miles for the engine and drive axle, with transmission coverage included for NPR and NPR-HD but not for the Allison-equipped NQR and NRR.

Roadside assistance includes towing to the nearest dealer for covered repairs. The broader Isuzu roadside program also covers services including jump starts, lockouts, and fueling, although the owner is responsible for fuel cost.

2027 Isuzu N-Series Gas Pricing

Because commercial chassis pricing can vary substantially based on wheelbase, body, vocational equipment and fleet arrangements, fleets should confirm current chassis and completed-vehicle pricing with Isuzu or an authorized dealer.

Previous Isuzu N-Series Gas Model Years

Isuzu first offered the N-Series Gas model for U.S. fleets in 1994, starting with the NPR-EFI, which was produced at a General Motors facility in Janesville, Wisconsin. After the closure of that location in 2009, N-Series production paused, and the trucks returned in 2011 when manufacturing began at the Spartan Motors facility in Charlotte, Michigan.

At that point, Isuzu offered the NPR (12,000-lb. GVWR) and the NPR-HD (14,500-lb. GVWR).

The Isuzu-Series Gas Class-5 truck won the 2024 Medium-Duty Truck of the Year award from Work Truck, marking the fourth time an Isuzu truck captured the title. The following year, the Isuzu NRR Diesel claimed the 2025 Medium-Duty Truck of the Year.
