The Ram ProMaster City returns to the U.S. commercial-van market for the 2027 model year, beginning the second generation of the ProMaster City nameplate in North America with an all-new midsize Class 2 van offered through Ram Professional.

Available as a Cargo Van or Passenger Wagon and in Tradesman or SLT trim, the new ProMaster City combines a front-wheel-drive layout with more than 167 cubic feet of cargo capacity, targeted payload of more than 2,000 pounds, and targeted towing capability of approximately 2,000 pounds.

2027 Ram ProMaster City At-a-Glance Fleet Specs

Ram’s preliminary specifications identify the ProMaster City as a midsize Class 2 van with a transverse-mounted engine, front-wheel drive, and unibody construction. The preliminary specification sheet lists 166 hp, 221 lb.-ft. of torque, payload above 2,000 pounds, and towing capability around 2,000 pounds.

The cargo-van dimensional chart provides the more precise measurements above, including a 210-inch overall length, 129-inch wheelbase, 76.7-inch maximum height, 111.1-inch cargo floor, and 167.1 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume behind the front seats.

What Changed for the 2027 Ram ProMaster City

The biggest change is pretty simple: the ProMaster City is back. The all-new 2027 ProMaster City returns to the Ram Professional lineup with a larger, more work-focused package that Ram says was engineered and validated specifically for North American commercial use. The van rides on a Stellantis global commercial vehicle platform that has accumulated billions of miles and more than 1.5 million vehicle sales globally.

For fleets, major highlights of the new model include:

• More than 167 cubic feet of cargo capacity
• More than 2,000 pounds of targeted payload and approximately 2,000 pounds of targeted towing
• 111-inch-plus cargo floor with more than 48 inches between the wheel wells
• Overall height below 80 inches
• New available rear liftgate in addition to rear swing doors
• Turbocharged 1.6L engine with eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive
• Expanded standard driver-assistance and cabin technology

Ram designed the cargo compartment with a relatively square profile from floor to roof, giving operators more usable space along the walls for items such as shelving, storage systems, and workbench-style upfits.

2027 Ram ProMaster City Engine and Powertrain

The 2027 ProMaster City uses one powertrain across Tradesman and SLT Cargo Van and Passenger Wagon configurations. Ram’s preliminary feature guide lists the 1.6L turbocharged I-4 and eight-speed automatic as standard across all four primary variants.

The all-aluminum four-cylinder produces 166 hp and 221 lb.-ft. of torque. Ram pairs it with an electronically controlled eight-speed automatic transmission, with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters standard across the lineup.

Power is routed through the front wheels. Packaging the engine and other major vehicle systems toward the front of the vehicle also helps preserve the flat cargo floor and leaves more of the rear structure available for cargo and upfits.

Chassis Suspension and Maneuverability

The ProMaster City uses a MacPherson-strut independent front suspension and independent trailing-arm rear suspension with coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers, and a stabilizer bar.

Ram lists a 129-inch wheelbase and says the van has a turning diameter just over 42 feet. The relatively compact footprint is designed for urban work, parking structures, delivery routes, and other applications where a full-size commercial van may simply be more vehicle than the job requires.

Its maximum published height is 76.7 inches, keeping it below the 80-inch mark. Ram says that allows the ProMaster City to fit into most urban parking garages and structures while still maintaining 54 inches of maximum cargo height.

2027 Ram ProMaster City Cargo Dimensions

Cargo packaging is one of the major fleet stories behind the new ProMaster City. The Cargo Van provides 167.1 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume behind the front seats and a cargo floor measuring 111.1 inches long. Width between the wheelhouses is 48.9 inches, meaning the floor can accommodate four-foot-wide materials between the rear wheel wells.

Ram says the 111-inch-plus load floor can accommodate common 4-by-8-foot construction materials, including sheetrock and plywood, along with longer framing lumber. The cargo area is also long enough to place two standard U.S. pallets front to back.

The rear step-in height is approximately 23.2 inches, while the squared cargo-box shape maintains more than 64 inches of overall cargo width farther up the body rather than sharply tapering toward the roof.

Cargo Access and Rear Door Options

A passenger-side sliding cargo door is standard across the lineup. Ram says the opening measures more than 36 inches wide and approximately 48 inches high.

At the rear, fleets can choose between two approaches: Standard 180-degree hinged swing doors are designed to work for dock and forklift loading. The doors initially stop at 90 degrees but can be released to swing to 180 degrees when more access is needed.

An available manual rear liftgate includes fixed glass, a rear wiper, and defrost. Ram identifies the liftgate as optional on Tradesman and SLT Cargo and Passenger configurations.

Ram says all configurations except the Cargo Van with full security panels can be equipped with the rear liftgate.

2027 Ram ProMaster City Configurations

The ProMaster City lineup is intentionally simple at the trim level, with two trims and two basic body styles:

Passenger models use a removable second row in the standard five-seat configuration. An available third row increases capacity to eight occupants, and both rear seating rows can be removed when additional cargo space is needed.

Ram also offers six window and panel combinations. Combined with the two rear-access arrangements, the company says customers can choose from 11 configurations.

• Side security panels with rear glass
• Passenger-side sliding-door glass with grate, security panels, and rear glass
• Grated side glass with rear-quarter security panels and rear glass

ProMaster City Payload and Towing

Ram is targeting more than 2,000 pounds of payload capacity and approximately 2,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity for the 2027 ProMaster City.

Maximum towing requires the available Class 3 trailer hitch with a 2-inch receiver.

Because the published figures remain preliminary, fleets should verify final payload, towing, GVWR, curb weight, and other certification information for the exact configuration before ordering or installing equipment.

Fleet and Upfit Features

The 2027 ProMaster City was designed with upfitting in mind. Ram says most primary vehicle systems are packaged forward of the cargo area, helping preserve space for shelving, tool storage, workbench modules, delivery equipment, and other vocational upfits.

An interior partition wall is optional on Tradesman and SLT Cargo Vans. Cargo-area overhead lighting and a vinyl liner are standard, while the van’s relatively vertical sidewalls help preserve usable space for equipment installed along the cargo-area walls.

Exterior Features Designed for Work

Ram designed several exterior elements around commercial use. The high-mounted front bumper helps keep forward lighting away from common low-speed impact areas, while the short front overhang and raked hood improve visibility around the front corners. Relatively flat body sides also provide usable space for fleet graphics and vehicle wraps.

2027 Ram ProMaster City Safety and Driver Assistance

Ram is making several driver-assistance technologies standard across the ProMaster City lineup rather than limiting them to SLT.

Standard safety and driver-assistance equipment includes:

2027 Ram ProMaster City Pricing

The 2027 ProMaster City starts at $39,995 including the $2,595 destination charge.

The pricing gives the commercial-focused Tradesman Cargo model the only sub-$40,000 starting point in the lineup once destination is included.

Ordering Production and Availability

Production of the 2027 ProMaster City is scheduled to begin in 2026, with vehicles arriving at U.S. dealerships during the first quarter of 2027.

The earlier product announcement said ordering would open during the second half of 2026.

The ProMaster City will be assembled at the TOFAS manufacturing plant in Bursa, Turkey. Ram says additional upfitting will be performed at FCA US LLC’s Baltimore Transformation Center.
