Geotab is officially celebrating 25 years in business, marking a major milestone in its evolution from a two-person startup to one of the largest global connected vehicle telematics providers.

The company, which now counts around 5 million connected vehicles under subscription and serves more than 50,000 customers worldwide, is leaning into its history of growth, data-powered innovation, and strong partnerships with customers, fleets, and technology providers.

Founded in 2000 by CEO Neil Cawse, Geotab has grown to employ more than 2,700 people across the globe and has built an ecosystem of over 700 partners.

“Being an entrepreneur, you need to stay focused and take risks, which isn’t always easy,” Cawse explained. “So it is incredibly rewarding to see technology, data, and people align to drive your vision forward and truly make a difference.”

Geotab has filed more than 300 patents over its two-and-a-half decades, helping push forward innovation in connected vehicles, fleet safety, and artificial intelligence. The company has also built a reputation for integrating AI and machine learning directly into its platform. It is now one of the largest users of Google Cloud services for AI and analytics.

“This anniversary is a moment to look back at our humble beginnings and the incredible path we've walked,” Cawse continued. “But more importantly, it's a launchpad for everything that's still to come.”

What’s New at Geotab?

In recent years, Geotab has launched several tools to make fleet management more efficient, responsive, and data-driven. One of its latest innovations is Geotab ACE, an AI-powered digital assistant that helps fleet managers analyze performance, generate reports, and find answers using natural language prompts.

ACE is designed to cut down the time it takes to access insights, whether identifying vehicles with repeated idling or answering complex operational questions.

The company has also doubled down on the use of real-time fleet data to help fleets prevent problems before they occur. With the ability to process more than 55 billion data points daily, Geotab's predictive tools can alert managers to potential vehicle issues, safety concerns, or inefficiencies long before they cause downtime.

Driver safety has been another recent focus. Geotab's dashboard analytics and coaching tools are giving fleets a clearer picture of which drivers are performing well and why. From gamified reporting to real-world behavioral insights like hard braking or speed events, fleets are using this data to reward top drivers and provide more targeted coaching.

“The future of connected vehicles is bursting with potential, and AI will be at the heart of reshaping it,” Cawse said. “We’ve built deep expertise in harnessing the power of data, and with AI, we’re continually unlocking deeper insights, anticipating challenges, and delivering unprecedented value to our customers.”

Cawse emphasized that this progress wouldn’t be possible without collaboration. “The real magic happens when our technology, powered by collective insights and collaboration, helps customers solve real-world problems, whether that’s making roads safer, shrinking carbon footprints, or getting vital goods where they need to be, faster and more efficiently.”

Looking Ahead with Geotab

As Geotab looks to the future, the company remains focused on empowering fleets with tools that are fast, flexible, and future-proof.

“We genuinely believe that when we work together, with quality data, we can change the world for the better,” Cawse said. “Technology is moving incredibly fast, and we’re committed to moving even faster, digging deeper, and continuing our mission of empowering fleets with the best possible tools and insights.”

And for those looking to follow a similar path, Cawse offered a final note of encouragement:

“To every aspiring innovator, every dreamer with a big idea, and every risk-taker out there: Geotab’s journey, from two individuals with a vision, stands as proof that it can be done,” he said. “Our story is a testament to the power of taking calculated risks, keeping your customers at the absolute center of everything you do, holding an unwavering belief in your vision, and having the courage to challenge the status quo. With passion, perspective, great people, and data, transformative ventures can be built.”
