Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems is marking anniversaries for two safety technologies that continue to play a role in commercial vehicle performance and driver support across North America.

The company is recognizing 20 years of the Bendix ESP Electronic Stability Program full-stability system and 10 years of Bendix Fusion, its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Both remain integral to ongoing safety advancements in trucking.

Bendix ESP: Two Decades of Full-Stability Support

Introduced in 2005, Bendix ESP was the first full-stability system widely available for North American commercial vehicles. The technology is designed to help drivers mitigate rollover and loss-of-control situations across a variety of road and weather conditions.

“From the beginning, Bendix ESP was built to help drivers avoid rollover and loss-of-control situations,” said TJ Thomas, Bendix director of marketing and customer solutions. “That remains its mission today.”

Bendix ESP also serves as the foundation for other ADAS technologies, including the Bendix Fusion system. Its braking capabilities across multiple axles and advanced sensors help detect instability earlier than a driver might, making it central to today’s safety platforms.

The technology’s adoption is reflected in its inclusion in federal safety mandates and standard use in many tractors built by leading OEMs.

Bendix Fusion: A Decade of ADAS Integration

Launched in 2015, Bendix Fusion integrates radar, camera, and brake system data into a single ADAS platform. Features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, overspeed alerts, and lane departure warnings. The system continues to evolve with functions such as Pedestrian Autonomous Emergency Braking (PAEB) and High Beam Assist on select models.

“Fusion continues to expand with new features that support both safety and driver convenience,” Thomas said.

Fusion is widely available on Class 8 tractors and is compatible with additional systems, such as the Bendix BlindSpotter Side Object Detection System.

Bendix emphasizes that these technologies are intended to complement, not replace, skilled drivers and safe driving practices. Drivers remain responsible for safe operation and should be trained on system use and limitations.

Looking Ahead

As Bendix reflects on these milestones, the company continues developing technologies for future needs, including automation and electrification. Upcoming platforms include Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC) and Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT), designed to support more advanced vehicle capabilities and diagnostics.

“Milestones like these are a chance to look back, but they’re also a springboard,” said Nicole Oreskovic, vice president of sales and marketing at Bendix. “We’re building on proven technologies to help fleets and OEMs manage the increasing complexity of modern vehicle platforms.”
