Ford has released the full towing and payload specifications for all four engine offerings of its 2015 F-150 pickup, claiming its revamped truck with added aluminum components offers leading towing and payload capabilities while shedding weight.
In July, Ford released payload and towing capabilities for two of the 2015 F-150 engines, including the 2.7L EcoBoost and 3.5L naturally aspirated V-6. On Sept. 29, during the first media event for the vehicle, Ford released towing capacity and payload specs for the 3.5L V-6 EcoBoost and 5.0L naturally aspirated V-8.
The 2015 F-150 equipped with the 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost and rear-wheel drive can tow 12,200 pounds with a maximum payload of 3,180 pounds. This truck will offer the highest towing capability of any F-150 model. Adding four-wheel drive to the truck would decrease the towing capability to 12,000 pounds, said Ford spokesman Aaron Miller.
Buyers seeking the highest payload capability of the 2015 F-150 lineup can turn to the 5.0L V-8, which offers a payload of up to 3,300 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 11,100 pounds. The four-wheel-drive model would offer a payload of 3,050 pounds.
Ford has released power ratings for the two higher-end engines as well. The 3.5L EcoBoost delivers 365 hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 5.0L V-8 delivers 385 hp and 387 lb.-ft. of torque. The lower displacement engine delivers additional power because it uses direct fuel injection and an improved torque curve, according to Miller.
Ford released details about its base engine and 3.5L V-6 in July.
The 2015 F-150 will go on sale later this year.
