Where’s My Truck: Inside the Fleet Logistics Work Nobody Sees

Three fleet professionals share what it really takes to coordinate vehicles, vendors, deliveries, and all the moving pieces behind getting a work truck where it needs to go.
What really happens behind the scenes between ordering a work truck and getting it where it needs to go?
In this episode of Shades of Fleet, Lauren Fletcher talks with three fleet professionals working across logistics, delivery, upfitting, and in-service coordination about the work most people never see. Dan Ickes of Mike Albert Fleet Solutions, Stephanie Courtney of Express 4x4 Truck Rental, and Lauren Sayers of Mike Albert Leasing share what it takes to keep vehicles moving when hundreds of trucks, multiple vendors, transportation partners, tags, drivers, and changing delivery plans are all part of the equation.
Their conversations get into why answering the seemingly simple question, “Where’s my truck?” can require a surprising amount of detective work. They talk about shifting timelines, last-minute delivery changes, vendor relationships, customer expectations, and what happens when transportation or upfitting plans do not go as expected.
It is also a look at the work that tends to disappear into the background when everything goes right. Behind every truck that arrives where and when it is supposed to are people managing status updates, solving problems, adjusting plans, and making dozens of small decisions so everyone else can keep doing their jobs.
For fleet managers, it is a reminder that getting a truck into service involves a lot more than placing an order and waiting for the keys.
