Fleetpal, maker of fleet maintenance software for heavy-duty commercial fleets, has announced that Fleetpal Inspect, its standalone vehicle inspection app, is now free for qualified fleets in the United States and Canada.

The free tier includes electronic pre- and post-trip driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) with photos and location, QR scan-and-report inspections that require no driver app install or login, customizable inspection templates, a defect triage queue for maintenance managers, and 24 months of photo retention.

The launch follows the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's electronic DVIR rule (Docket FMCSA-2025-0115), effective March 23, 2026, which explicitly authorized the creation and maintenance of vehicle inspection reports in electronic format and removed longstanding ambiguity around paperless inspections.

"We built this for working fleets, not for trials," said Mike Valnev, founder and CEO of Fleetpal. "Any US or Canadian fleet running 30 or more power units can apply. We verify them with a short call, and they get electronic DVIRs free for as long as they run them — it's not a trial, and it doesn't expire."

How to Apply for Free Access

To qualify, fleets apply online with their USDOT number and fleet details. Fleetpal verifies applicants against FMCSA's SAFER database and a brief phone call, typically within two business days.

Fleets that need more can move to the full Fleetpal platform, which adds frozen annual inspection (AVIR) records, technician certifications, AI-assisted VMRS coding, condition-diff reporting, telematics integrations with Samsara and Motive, webhooks and API access, and a defect-to-work-order loop that turns inspection findings directly into shop work orders.
