Average national diesel fuel prices rose across all regions closing out July 2023.

Closing out the first full month of summer and the final week of July 2023, national average retail diesel fuel prices mostly showed minor increases week-over-week but all regions are still seeing fuel prices down compared to last year. As of July 31, 2023, current national average diesel prices are $4.13 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This price represents an increase of 22 cents over the previous week, yet still a decrease of $1.01 compared to last year. All prices bumped back above the $4 per gallon mark with the exception of the Gulf Coast.

Starting the first month of summer and the third week of July 2023, national average retail diesel fuel prices mostly showed minor increases week-over-week but all regions are still seeing fuel prices down compared to last year. As of July 17, 2023, current national average diesel prices are $3.81 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This price represents no increase or decrease over the previous week, yet still a decrease of $1.63 compared to last year. 

Starting the third week of July, average diesel prices as of July 17, by region were:

  • East Coast: $3.88
  • Midwest: $3.73
  • Gulf Coast: $3.51
  • Rocky Mountain: $3.93
  • West Coast: $4.47

Starting the first month of summer and the second week of July 2023, national average retail diesel fuel prices increased slightly across all regions except for one. As of July 11, 2023, current national average diesel prices are $3.81 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This price represents a close to 4 cent increase over the previous week, yet still a decrease of $1.76 compared to last year. 

Starting the second week of July, average diesel prices as of July 11, by region were:

  • East Coast: $3.86
  • Midwest: $3.74
  • Gulf Coast: $3.51
  • Rocky Mountain: $3.94
  • West Coast: $4.46

Starting the first month of summer and the first week of July 2023, national average retail diesel fuel prices continued declining in all regions. As of July 3, 2023, current national average diesel prices are $3.77 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This price represents a just over 3 cent decrease over the previous week and a decrease of $1.91 compared to last year. In addition, the Rocky Mountain region finally dipped below the $4 per gallon mark, leaving just the West Coast above the $4 mark. 

This price decrease is holding steady with the EIA forecast earlier this year for retail diesel prices to decline in 2023 and 2024. 

Starting July 2023, average diesel prices as of July 3, by region were:

  • East Coast: $3.81
  • Midwest: $3.70
  • Gulf Coast: $3.47
  • Rocky Mountain: $3.95
  • West Coast: $4.41

Average U.S. Gasoline Prices July 2023

Closing out July 2023, national average gasoline prices in the U.S. have slowly rising once again week-over-week since since a peak in April.

Average U.S. gasoline prices were $4.13 per gallon as of July 31, 2023.
