The CITGO merchant network has integrated WEX’s DriverDash mobile payment app, which allows users to pay directly at the pump at CITGO stations without swiping a physical card or entering the store, delivering a faster, more effortless fueling experience.

That means DriverDash has expanded its fast-growing U.S. station footprint with the addition of approximately 4,000 CITGO locations.

Teaming up with WEX on its card program since 2013, CITGO markets quality motor fuels to independent marketers who consistently rate it as one of the best branded supplier companies in the industry.

CITGO-branded marketers sell motor fuels through independently owned, branded retail outlets, located east of the Rocky Mountains.

Expanding Access for Fleet Drivers

DriverDash is WEX’s mobile payment app for commercial fleet drivers, allowing them to pay for fuel directly from their smartphones.

Built on WEX’s closed-loop payments network, the app simplifies transactions, strengthens security, and provides real-time visibility and control for fleet managers.

WEX said that as demand grows for frictionless payments and digital workflows, DriverDash is quickly becoming a key enabler of next-generation fueling for fleets of all sizes. The latest CITGO integration means DriverDash’s mobile payments system is now available at nearly 45,000 fueling locations nationwide.

“This collaboration with CITGO represents another step forward in how fleets think about mobility and payments,” said Brian Fournier, senior vice president and general manager, North American Mobility at WEX. “Our goal with DriverDash is to remove friction from everyday fueling while providing intelligent control for fleets. When drivers have an easier way to fuel and fleet managers have more reliable data, everyone operates more efficiently, and that’s the kind of experience we’re focused on delivering.”

Security, Control & Data Accuracy

The solution is powered by the integration of the DriverDash mobile payment application payment interface (API) into CITGO’s point-of-sale (POS) systems, with transactions validated through the WEX closed-loop network.

DriverDash helps address fleet and fuel merchant challenges around security, fraud prevention, and visibility by replacing card-based fueling with a secure, data-rich mobile experience.

Using encrypted transactions with facial and fingerprint recognition, DriverDash helps reduce fraud risks such as card skimming while capturing accurate in-cab odometer readings and generating automatic electronic receipts for cleaner data and easier reconciliation. Drivers benefit from added convenience by eliminating the need to swipe a card or enter the store, which increases productivity.

“Expanding DriverDash to the CITGO network is about meeting drivers where they are with a faster, safer way to fuel,” said Cecile Zinder, vice president of product management at WEX. “By pairing secure mobile payments with real-time, high-quality data, we’re helping fleets simplify fueling for drivers while giving managers stronger controls across their operations.”
