July Diesel Trends Update

The average price of a gallon of diesel increased again this week, and the EIA reported a new national average of $5.31 at the start of the week.

The national average price of a gallon of diesel increased by nearly 18 cents this week, bringing the national average to $5.13 per gallon.

The national average price of a gallon of diesel increased drastically again this week. The national average jumped by almost 18 cents, and all regions reported similar increases.

The national average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel was $5.31 as reported on July 27 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The weekly report also provides a year-over-year pricing comparison, showing the national average is $1.54 higher than in 2025 and $1.51 higher than at the same time in 2024.

This week, average prices increased across all five regions.

The regional price average increases ranged from 14.5 cents in the Gulf Coast region to 20.8 cents in the Midwest region. All regions’ averages are again above $5, and the West Coast region reported an average price of $6.06.

The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $6.98 per gallon, and the least costly is Oklahoma, at $4.72 per gallon.
