The Harriet Tubman Award recognizes individuals in mobility-related industries whose direct actions have helped identify and recover victims of human trafficking. Named after the famed abolitionist, the award honors those who take tangible steps to interrupt trafficking situations across the transportation network.
For fleets and mobility providers, the partnership underscores a growing recognition that the transportation ecosystem plays a critical role in prevention and awareness efforts.
“WEX is proud to support TAT and its mission to train mobility-related industries to identify and help recover victims of human trafficking,” said Tim Hampton, senior vice president and general manager for Over-the-Road at WEX. He noted the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on safety and its broader commitment to being a positive force within the industries it serves.

A New Sponsor for the Harriet Tubman Award
TAT leaders say WEX has already begun expanding its involvement. In 2025, WEX invited TAT to participate in its OTR Summit and contributed a portion of the event registration fees to the organization. Earlier this year, TAT’s Freedom Drivers Project exhibit was featured at WEX’s annual sales kickoff meeting, where more than 700 employees received trafficking awareness training.
Under the new sponsorship, WEX will fund both the individual Harriet Tubman Award recipient and their company, host a dedicated award ceremony at the 2026 WEX OTR Summit, and cover travel expenses for the winner, a guest, and a TAT staff member.

“We’re excited to welcome WEX as our next Harriet Tubman Award sponsor,” said Esther Goetsch, executive director of TAT. “When organizations use their platform and industry connections to help drive awareness and action, it expands the impact of this work across the transportation sector.”
As payments, telematics, and fleet data platforms continue to integrate more deeply into trucking operations, mobility companies are increasingly positioned to support safety initiatives that extend beyond compliance and into community impact.
For fleets, the message is clear. Combating trafficking is no longer a standalone CSR effort. It is becoming part of the broader safety conversation across the industry.
