Toyo M154 Becomes 4th Commercial Tire to Receive U.S. EPA SmartWay Verification
CYPRESS, CA - The M154 by Toyo Tires has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay verification as a steer tire when used in a set on a rig equipped with the company's M657 drive tire and M127 free-rolling tire for trailer axles.
CYPRESS, CA - The M154 by Toyo Tires has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay verification as a steer tire when used in a set on a rig equipped with the company's M657 drive tire and M127 free-rolling tire for trailer axles. This makes it the fourth commercial product manufactured by Toyo Tires to receive this recognition of being a low-rolling resistance tire. Owners can now choose between two premium products for the steer position, the M154 for regional trucking and the M137 for long-haul applications.
The M154 is manufactured using Toyo Tires' e-balance technology which focuses on a stiffer belt package, stiffer bead construction and optimization through simulation technology. Benefits include improved tire life, improved endurance, improved irregular wear resistance and improved fuel consumption. The five-rib M154 has a full 22/32" tread depth.
Based on data provided by tire manufacturers and EPA testing and research, the EPA has determined that certain tire models can provide a reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. An additional benefit is an estimated fuel savings of three-percent or greater, relative to the "best selling" new tires for line haul trucks, when used on all five axles on long haul class 8 trucks. As a result, verified tires are required as a component on SmartWay Certified Tractors and SmartWay Certified Trailers.
