Springing into Dipping Diesel Prices

The current average diesel fuel price represents a decrease of 1 cent per gallon compared to the prior week and a drop of about $0.98 per gallon compared to one year prior.

National average retail diesel fuel pricing going into Spring 2023 decreased once again to $4.10 per gallon as of April 11, 2023, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

This average price represents a decrease of 1 cent per gallon compared to the prior week and a drop of about $0.98 per gallon compared to one year prior.

Digging into U.S. Regional Diesel Fuel Prices

This week, only the Midwest saw a minor price increase (around a cent-and-a-half). The remaining U.S. regions tracked by the EIA saw a price decrease for diesel fuel week-over-week and year-over-year for one more week. 

Current average diesel prices by region are:

  • East Coast: $4.23

  • Midwest: $3.95

  • Gulf Coast: $3.89

  • Rocky Mountain: $4.15

  • West Coast: $4.72

What are the Regional Fuel Price Trends? 

A few general highlights include: 

  • West Coast average prices have remained below the $5 per gallon mark, including California for the first time in a while, which finally hit $4.99).

  • The most significant week-over-week decrease was seen again in the Rocky Mountain region for a third consecutive week at around 5 cents below last week.

  • The highest year-over-year decline was seen in the West Coast yet again, dipping $1.06 below the same time the previous year. 

  • Midwest and Gulf Coast remain the only regions below the $4 per gallon price point for diesel fuel.
