As you head into March 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about? Which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has all the answers for you in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls.

Pickup Truck & Van Recalls

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24S06

  • Vehicles: 2018-2020 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator

  • Potential Units Affected: 77,574

  • Component: Seat belts

  • Breakdown: The seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently deploy and lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt retractors, as necessary. Additionally, dealers will install an HVAC drain tube elbow if it is missing. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated second half of 2024

  • Recall Number: 24S05

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Ford Transit

  • Potential Units Affected: 77,584

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: An inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant may cause rear axle tail bearing damage and seizure, which can result in wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt retractors, as necessary. Additionally, dealers will install an HVAC drain tube elbow if it is missing. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated second half of 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S04

  • Vehicles: 2023 Explorer

  • Potential Units Affected: 118

  • Component: Suspension, steering

  • Breakdown: The right-front lower fastener connecting the steering knuckle and strut may be loose or missing.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the fasteners, and tighten or install them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S07

  • Vehicles: 2021-2022 E-350 and E-450 vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels

  • Potential Units Affected: 16,543

  • Component: Steering, service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: An inadequate connection between the power steering pressure line and the brake hydroboost unit may result in a sudden loss of power steering fluid.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the fasteners, and tighten or install them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S07

  • Vehicles: 2021-2022 E-350 and E-450 vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels

  • Potential Units Affected: 16,543

  • Component: Steering, Service Brakes, Hydraulic

  • Breakdown: An inadequate connection between the power steering pressure line and the brake hydroboost unit may result in a sudden loss of power steering fluid.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the power steering pressure line and the hydroboost jumper line, free of charge. Vehicles in this recall were previously recalled under 22V-089 and owners will need to have the new remedy completed even if their vehicle was remedied under the prior recall. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 25, 2024.

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N242430730

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV

  • Potential Units Affected: 352

  • Component: Seat belts

  • Breakdown: An incorrect seat belt bezel on the second-row center seat belt may damage or tear the seat belt in the event of a crash.

  • Solution: Do not allow passengers to sit in the second-row center seat until remedied. Dealers will replace the second-row center seat belt bezel, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to begin March 25, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N232426400

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500

  • Potential Units Affected: 323,232

  • Component: Latches/locks/linkages

  • Breakdown: The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.

  • Solution: Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 18, 2024.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Truck Recalls

Autocar

  • Recall Number: ACX-2401 and ACTT-2401

  • Vehicles: 2023 ACX (Xpeditor) and ACTT (Xspotter)

  • Potential Units Affected: 36

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 4, 2024.

Braun

  • Recall Number: 2024-2

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Chief XL Type I, Chief XL Type III, Express Plus Type I, Express Type III, and Liberty Type I

  • Potential Units Affected: 29

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The high contact nodes may cause the module mounted turn signals, backup alarm, brake lights, and rearview camera to turn on intermittently or fail to activate.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the nodes, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 16, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 2024-01

  • Vehicles: 2020-2023 Chief XL I, Express Plus I, Chief XL III, Liberty I, Super Chief I, Signature Series III, Signature Series I, and 2020-2024 Express III

  • Potential Units Affected: 628

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.

  • Solution: Weldon will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 12, 2024.

Daimler

  • Recall Number: FL994

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Western Star 49X

  • Potential Units Affected: 49

  • Component: Suspension

  • Breakdown: The suspension hanger may fail due to missing welds, which can result in difficulty steering and maintaining the direction of the front two wheels.

  • Solution: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 8, 2024.

  • Recall Number: FL995

  • Vehicles: 2024 FCCC MT45G, MT45, and Freightliner Cascadia

  • Potential Units Affected: 11

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the steering gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 8, 2024.

  • Recall Number: M0460

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Hino NE7A, NE7B, NH7A, NH9A, NH9B, NH9C, NJ7A, NJ7B, NJ7C, NV7A, NV7B, NV7C, NM9A, NM9B, TH9K, and TM9K

  • Potential Units Affected: 12,118

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The ground connection in the telematics control unit harness may not be secured properly, which can result in the ground connection overheating.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and repair the ground circuit and replace any damaged harnesses as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 5, 2024.

Mitsubishi Fuso

  • Recall Number: C10126

  • Vehicles: 2024 FEC7K and FEC9K

  • Potential Units Affected: 175

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: Due to a control unit counter error, the vehicle may shut down unexpectedly, which can result in a loss of drive power.

  • Solution: Dealers will reprogram vehicle control unit and instrument panel control unit, free of charge. None of the affected vehicles have been sold, so therefore no owner notification letters will be sent.

Navistar

  • Recall Number: 24503

  • Vehicles: 2024 International HX, LT, RH and 2024-2025 International HV, MV trucks and 2024 IC Bus CE commercial buses

  • Potential Units Affected: 893

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the defective gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 18, 2024.

Volvo

  • Recall Number: RVXX2401

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 VNL and VNR.

  • Potential Units Affected: 45

  • Component: Steering.

  • Breakdown: The steering gear sector shaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause the gear teeth to crack or fracture.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the serial numbers, and replace the steering gears, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 15, 2024.
