Omnitracs, LLC, released transportation technology to help fleets prepare for the hurricane season, according to the company’s press release.
Omnitracs has collected data from previous storms to bring transportation intelligence and insights to help fleets optimize each mile and driver moment. The data has been broken down into three phases to understand more about transportation activity surrounding a forecasted hurricane.
Phase 1: Before Landfall
In this phase, companies communicate with each other and pre-position assets. They also accelerate shipments.
Phase 2: After Landfall
Companies and individuals are not operating in this phase. They are concentrated on their safety.
Phase 3: Recovery
The recovery phase can last many days after landfall. In this final phase, resources flood in the area, cleanup and construction is happening, and shipments are performed.
Depending on the proximity to the hurricane zone, the supply chain can be disrupted for as long as 30 days due to a hurricane.
Hurricane Sally made landfall one month after Hurricane Laura. It was not until five days after the impact when recovery started. It lasted for 15 days. According to the release, there are a 25% increase in post-hurricane activity in the hurricane zone.
“Hurricanes are inevitable and, although it’s difficult to accurately predict when or where they’ll hit, it’s important to be prepared,” said Dr. Ashim Bose, Chief Data and AI Officer, Omnitracs. “With the depth and breadth of the data Omnitracs has – along with the routing, distribution, and safety tools – we are focused on helping fleets lessen the impact and get business back to normal rapidly and effectively.”
