LaFontaine Automotive Group has partnered with UVeye to deploy AI-powered vehicle inspection technology across its more than 40 locations in Michigan, expanding access to drive-through vehicle health scans.

While the initial rollout is focused on dealership customers and passenger vehicles, UVeye told Work Truck its technology can also be integrated into inspection and preventive maintenance processes for commercial fleets.

How AI Inspections Could Fit Into Fleet Maintenance

UVeye’s systems use computer vision and deep learning to scan a vehicle’s tires, underbody, and exterior in seconds. The company said the technology captures images of potential defects or damage and generates a digital report that can be reviewed by technicians, fleet managers, or vehicle owners.

For work truck fleets, UVeye told Work Truck the system is designed to complement existing inspections rather than replace them.

"UVeye's system works alongside a fleet's existing inspection process rather than replacing it,” UVeye told Work Truck. “Deployed at return-to-base depots, service centers, or drive-through points like truck stops, it runs a complete 360-degree scan in seconds and generates a shareable digital report.”

For heavily used vocational trucks, UVeye said the system is particularly suited to identifying tire wear and mismatched tire sets, underbody leaks, cracks, rust, and exterior scratches or dents that can be difficult to spot during a quick walk-around inspection.

The company said incorporating automated scans into preventive maintenance or pre- and post-trip inspection processes can also allow inspectors to spend more time on repairs and more complex evaluations that require hands-on attention.

Scanning Heavy-Duty and Upfitted Trucks

Commercial trucks bring additional inspection challenges because of their varying body configurations, upfits, payloads, and duty cycles.

UVeye told Work Truck that its heavy-duty inspection platform was developed specifically for Class 6-8 trucks and buses rather than adapting its passenger-vehicle system.

The system scans the exterior, underbody, and tires using computer vision models trained on UVeye’s proprietary database of vehicle components and defects. According to the company, those models are continuously updated as additional vehicle images are collected.

UVeye also emphasized that automated inspection results are intended to provide another layer of information for fleet maintenance teams rather than serve as a replacement for technician or fleet manager judgment.

“Our scans flag condition changes for a maintenance team to review,” UVeye told Work Truck. “Duty cycles and upfit configurations vary widely across fleet operations, so we position our reports as an added layer of visibility that supports a fleet manager's own maintenance decisions, not a replacement for their experience or judgment.”

LaFontaine Expands UVeye Access Across Michigan

The partnership with LaFontaine will bring UVeye inspection systems to the dealership group's statewide network.

LaFontaine plans to offer complimentary vehicle health scans at participating dealerships to drivers regardless of where their vehicle was purchased.

The first inspection lane was unveiled Sept. 14, 2026, at LaFontaine Buick GMC Highland in Highland, Michigan.

UVeye has more than 1,000 systems deployed across dealerships, fleets, auctions, rental operations, and OEM logistics facilities. The company said its systems currently scan more than 3 million vehicles each month.
