Following the announcement of GM and Telogis’ partnership to provide a fleet telematics solution on GM products (l-r) Paul Loewer, commercial product manager for GM; David Lohmeier, manager of new business for OnStar; Amy Hart Phillips, VP, OEM business for Telogis; Ed Peper, U.S. VP, Fleet & Commercial for GM; and Mark Wallin, VP product management for Telogis pose for posterity.

Telogis will integrate its location intelligence platform into General Motors' OnStar telematics system under a new partnership announced today at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.

GM is leveraging Telogis' platform for OnStar's proprietary application interfaces, or APIs, to provide information about vehicles to fleet customers that helps control costs, increase safety and enhance fleet operations.

"The combination of OnStar's industry-leading, unique infrastructure and the Telogis platform will allow fleet managers to keep their vehicles running smoothly on the road," said Ed Peper, vice president for GM Fleet and Commercial. "This is the next step in expanding our connected vehicle service offerings to help fleets operate more efficiently and identify cost savings."

On properly equipped GM fleet vehicles, OnStar technology is integrated into the vehicle from the point of vehicle manufacture and is covered under GM's standard bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and can be serviced at any of GM's 4,300 U.S. dealers.

"By leveraging GM's OnStar connected services infrastructure, we make it easier for customers to access our comprehensive location intelligence platform directly through any GM OnStar-equipped commercial vehicles," said Susan Heystee, executive vice president for worldwide sales at Telogis. "GM customers have easy access to powerful analytics and connected intelligence that will transform the way their business is done outside the four walls."

Telogis provides a cloud-based location intelligence platform for companies that require route optimization, real-time work order management, commercial navigation, telematics and mobile integration services for their mobile workforces.

Information from the field is transmitted from the vehicle using OnStar technology and the system does not require any additional hardware or third-party installation costs making it an attractive and cost-effective solution for commercial fleets to access location and vehicle intelligence, assisting fleets in lowering their total cost of ownership.

Telogis recently secured a $93 million institutional financing round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Telogis is using the investment to further capitalize on the market and continue to focus on providing innovative technologies and solutions that enable enterprises and organizations to optimize the management of their mobile assets including better data collection and analysis.

The Telogis platform is the first set of commercial applications to utilize OnStar's proprietary APIs since GM and OnStar announced an online portal in early 2013. This portal allows developers to work with GM in a secure and controlled manner to design, test and deliver relevant, customizable and seamlessly integrated automotive apps and services.

The Telogis fleet telematics solution will be available in the spring.
