National average retail diesel fuel prices in mid- to late April 2023 increased for the first week in quite some time, while minutely, to $4.12 per gallon as of April 17, 2023, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). 

This average price represents an increase of 2 cents per gallon compared to the prior week, but still shows a drop of about $0.99 per gallon compared to one year prior. 

Looking at U.S. Regional Diesel Fuel Prices

This week, the majority of the diesel fuel price increases or decrease across U.S. regions were fair stable, increasing or decreasing under 1/10th of a cent. However, the Midwest once again saw a price increase (around 6 cents). All U.S. regions tracked by the EIA saw a price decrease for diesel fuel year-over-year. 

Current average diesel prices by region are:

• East Coast: $4.20

• Midwest: $4.03

• Gulf Coast: $3.88

• Rocky Mountain: $4.10

• West Coast: $4.69

How are Gasoline Prices Doing? 

While average gasoline prices all U.S. regions tracked by the EIA are still down compared to the same time last year, all regions experienced an increase in average gasoline fuel prices when compared with the week prior.

Average U.S. gasoline prices are hitting $3.66 per gallon, up almost 7 cents from the same time last week. The Gulf Coast saw the largest week-over-week increase in gasoline prices.
