National average retail diesel fuel prices in closing out April 2023 decreased once again to $4.08 per gallon as of April 24, 2023, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). 

This average price represents a decrease of close to 4 cents per gallon compared to the prior week and a drop of $1.08 per gallon compared to one year prior. 

U.S. Regional Diesel Fuel Prices

This week, diesel fuel prices in all but one region of the U.S. continued to decline. All U.S. regions tracked by the EIA saw a price decrease for diesel fuel year-over-year. The Rocky Mountain was the only region to see a price increase (around 2 cents), although West Coast regional prices were the same week-over-week. 

Current average diesel prices by region are:

• East Coast: $4.20

• Midwest: $4.03

• Gulf Coast: $3.88

• Rocky Mountain: $4.10

• West Coast: $4.69

What's 'Up' with Gasoline Prices? 

Currently, gasoline prices in half of the U.S. regions tracked by the EIA are down compared to last year, and the other half have seen a minor increase. 

Average U.S. gasoline prices stayed at $3.66 per gallon, down less than 1/10th of a cent from the same time last week. Average gasoline prices year-year are down about 45 cents per gallon.
