According to the AAA, the highest recorded diesel price was $4.845 per gallon in July of 2008.
Diesel Prices Continue to Decline, But Leveling Out
National average diesel fuel prices were $2.37 per gallon, according to the EIA. This represents a $0.75 drop from the same time last year, but less than a half-cent drop from the previous week.

So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of January 6 and diesel prices have declined since then.

National average diesel fuel prices were $2.37 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This represents a $0.75 drop from the same time last year, but less than a half-cent drop from the previous week.
The opposite is true for gasoline prices, which are witnessing a small increase. The AAA noted that the gasoline price increase is due, in part, to an increase in motorists getting back on the road again.
So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of January 6 and diesel prices have declined since then.
Current average diesel prices by region, according to the EIA are:
East Coast: $2.50
Midwest: $2.23
Gulf Coast: $2.17
Rocky Mountains: $2.34
West Coast: $2.90
