April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Distracted driving continues to be a significant problem on the roads today, causing numerous accidents and fatalities every year.
As technology continues to advance, so does the development of tools designed to help combat this issue.
In honor of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, here are some of the newest technologies that are helping keep work truck drivers focused on the road while improving the overall safety of fleet operations.
Tech to Combat Distracted Driving
From software to dashcams, work truck fleet tech has you covered to help combat distracted driving…
Prevent Wrong Ways When Distracted
Michelin DDi launched a new service called Wrong Way, which aims to make roads and travel safer for drivers. This service is part of the Safer Roads suite of services and is designed to help identify locations where wrong-way driving is happening.
Wrong-way driving has resulted in an increase in road fatalities due to head-on collisions involving multiple vehicles. Michelin DDi's new service provides data and insights on wrong-way driving hotspots to help road managers prevent further incidents.
Training to Improve Driving Behavior
Netradyne has integrated its Driver•i fleet safety camera platform with the CarriersEdge online training automation system. This integration allows Netradyne's customers to automatically assign and track required CarriersEdge safety and compliance training courses based on events and behaviors captured by the Driver•i device.
CarriersEdge offers access to nearly 200 interactive online driver training modules and provides management and reporting functions through its platform. The integration simplifies the driver coaching process and helps ensure drivers are receiving feedback reflective of their behavior.

Driver•i fleet safety camera platform detects and corrects seven times more risk in real time.

Make Driving Comfortable for Fewer Distractions
Fontaine Modification Medium & Heavy Truck Operations has introduced the International Premium Dual Drive modification, which aims to make it as comfortable for a driver to operate a refuse collection vehicle, street sweeper, or road-striping truck from the right side as the left.
The modification adds a right-hand drive station to International MV and HV trucks for applications that require an operator to be able to drive from either side. Fontaine's engineers have worked to make the right-side driving position virtually identical to the ergonomics of the OEM left-side position to ensure drivers are as comfortable and productive as possible throughout their shifts.
The modification can be performed on new vehicles as part of Fontaine's ship-thru agreement with International.
Detect Drowsiness
MobileMule AI is an AI-powered dual dash cam that detects and alerts for various driving behaviors and uploads data to the cloud. It includes facial recognition software, real-time alerts, external event detection, privacy options, cloud storage, and an emergency aid panic button. It supports safe-driving initiatives and can be used for driver training and productivity.
