As we move toward the end of the year (already!), it’s a great time to take a moment and reflect. Earlier this year, we spoke about turning your resolutions into goals, and how to apply the concept of “resolutions” into a work-related goal.

With the end of 2017 approaching, take a look at the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Ask yourself a few basic questions:

1. Did I reach my goal?

2. If I did reach my goal, is there anything else I can do to surpass my original goal before the end of the year?

3. If I didn’t reach my goal, have I made any progress toward it? Is there anything else I can do to accomplish the goal before December 31?

For goals that you have reached, take a moment to celebrate! Your hard work and effort paid off. For any goals that you have not reached, take a moment to analyze what happened. Did you try your hardest, or did you set the goal and forget about it?

It’s also a good time to start thinking about your goals and resolutions for 2018. If you didn’t hit a goal this year, before simply putting it back on your goal list, think about why you may not have reached your goal. Was it too unrealistic? Did you create short-term goals to help you reach a bigger picture? Did you simply give up? You may want to adjust a goal for the next year to help you better realize results.

The end of the year is a great time for reflection, planning, and goal setting. If you start making an effort today to set goals and check up on their progress often, you can help realize cost savings, reductions in accidents, or whatever your goals may be in no time.
