Ram Trucks has introduced the 2014 Ram Power Wagon, a 2500 Heavy Duty-based work truck with enhancement designed for off-road work, Chrysler has announced.

With the new truck, Ram Trucks is reviving its Power Wagon brand popularized after World War II as a nameplate for military-based commercial trucks. The new model is based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab pickup. It will be shown at the New York International Auto Show later this month.

The 2014 Power Wagon arrives with a standard 6.4L HEMI V-8 engine that delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Class 2b truck with a gross vehicle weight of 8,510 pounds also gets a new front suspension system known as Ram Articulink that incorporates high movement joints and a sway-bar disconnect system for greater axle articulation. The truck gets a new five-link coil rear suspension with Bilstein monotube shocks.

Also part of the package are standard front and rear electronic-locking differentials and a standard Warn 12,000-pound electric winch mounted behind the front bumper.

Like the Ram 2500, the Power Wagon will be offered in three trim levels — the Trandesman, SLT, and Laramie. Twelve exterior colors will be offered.

The Power Wagon nameplate was produced from 1945 through 1980. Early trucks were based on the Weapons Carrier series of Dodge 3/4-ton military trucks used during the war.
