March Diesel Trends Update
The average price of diesel remains above $5 per gallon in every U.S. region and nationally. With continued oil supply chain challenges in the Middle East, prices are significantly higher than a year ago and also two years ago.

The average price of a gallon of diesel increased nationally again; however, this time the increase was smaller than in recent weeks, just 2.6 cents.

As the global oil supply continues to face challenges in the Middle East, the average price of diesel remains above $5 nationwide and in every region of the U.S., with the West Coast average this week at $6.59.
This week, the national price average increased by less than 3 cents, and two of the five regions reported small price drops.
The national average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel was $5.40 on March 30, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
However, the weekly report also provides a year-over-year pricing comparison, showing the national average is now $1.81 higher than in 2025 and $1.40 higher than the same time in 2024.
This week, regional average prices increased in three regions. The regional price average increases ranged from 5.5 cents in the East Coast to more than 28 cents in the West Coast region. Two regions, the Midwest and the Gulf Coast, saw lower prices at the start of this week.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is California, at $7.45 per gallon, and the least costly is Oklahoma, at $4.49 per gallon.

The national average diesel price increased again this week, slightly. However, EIA now provides a comparison to prices from two years ago, which shows diesel is now 39.8 cents cheaper.
