According to the most recent report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the national average cost of diesel fuel at the start of this week was higher than the previous week, and four of five regions also reported small increases.
The national average price per gallon of diesel fuel in the U.S. increased by ½ of a cent as of Sept. 29, 2025. The national average price of $3.75 per gallon is 21 cents higher than it was at the same time last year.
This week, regional average prices increased in four regions. The regional price average increases ranged from ½ of a cent in the East Coast region to 1.5 cents in the Rocky Mountain region. The East Coach region saw a small price decrease of less than 1 cent, while the Midwest Region average price was unchanged.
All regions averaged higher prices than the same period last year. The West Coast has the most significant difference, more than 30 cents higher than this time last year.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $5.22 per gallon, and the least costly is Texas, at $3.19 per gallon.
