As fleet operators nationwide increasingly consider transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs), Ford Pro is making that process easier. The commercial division of Ford Motor Company has launched a suite of tools aimed at helping businesses determine if and when the time is right to make the switch.
Among these resources is the complimentary E-Switch Assist, a data-driven tool that assesses fleet readiness for electrification.
How Does E-Switch Assist Work?
E-Switch Assist utilizes advanced algorithms to analyze connected vehicle data from existing gas-powered fleets. It evaluates key operational factors such as:
Distance driven
Cargo load
Vehicle efficiency
Terrain
Driver-specific behaviors
External climate conditions
Cabin heating requirements
By comparing the energy consumption of gas-powered vehicles to the estimated energy needs of comparable electric vehicles, the tool offers personalized recommendations on which vehicles are best suited for electrification.
Since its launch, E-Switch Assist has evaluated over 38,000 commercial vehicles, identifying that nearly 53% are potential candidates for transitioning to electric based on current usage patterns.
E-Switch Assist’s Impact on Commercial Fleets
“Smart tools informed by data like E-Switch Assist are opening up many new conversations with our commercial customers, large and small, about EV readiness,” said Nathan McDonald, EV Strategy and Brand Manager at Ford Pro. “The importance of these tools goes beyond just selling a customer a new vehicle—it changes mindsets about whether electric vehicles will work for their business while potentially saving them time and money.”
This tool helps fleet operators pinpoint which areas of their operations are ideal for electrification without causing disruption, providing valuable insights that allow for more informed decision-making.
