Diesel prices have dropped slightly after a peak in March but are still up year-over-year.

National average diesel fuel prices were $5.10 per gallon as of April 18, 2022, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This average price represents a rise of 3 cents from the prior week and $1.98 over the same time last year. National average diesel fuel prices peaked to $5.25 per gallon on March 14, 2022 but have since dropped slightly from the peak.

All regions experienced a small price increase both week-over-week and year-over-year.

Current average diesel prices by region are:

  • East Coast: $5.15
  • Midwest: $4.92
  • Gulf Coast: $4.86
  • Rocky Mountain: $5.10
  • West Coast: $5.80
