National average diesel fuel prices were $2.80 per gallon as of Feb. 8, 2021, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This uptick continues the rising trend we have seen since early November 2020, and is now matching prices seen in early March 2020.

With a $0.06 increase from the previous week, overall national average prices are only down around 10 cents per gallon compared to same time last year, the gap is starting to close.

In 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices had, on average, declined or remained stable until early November. Prices experienced a steady rise throughout the remainder of 2020.

All regions saw some increase week-over-week but are still down slightly compared with prices one year prior. Current average diesel prices by region are:

  • East Coast: $2.85
  • Midwest: $2.75
  • Gulf Coast: $2.57
  • Rocky Mountains: $2.70
  • West Coast: $3.26
