National average diesel fuel prices were $2.40 per gallon as of Oct. 13, 2020, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
This is a very miute $0.008 drop from the previous week, with overall national average prices down around 66 cents per gallon compared to same time last year. Prices have remained relatively stable since early May.
So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices have, on average, declined since then. Current averages are hitting the lowest prices experienced again since mid-May. National average gasoline prices have dipped slightly since late August, but still not as drastic as May prices dropped, according to the EIA.
Current average diesel prices by region have continued to decrease year-over-year, according to the EIA, but for the first time in a few weeks all regional average prices rose over the prior week:
- East Coast: $2.47
- Midwest: $2.28
- Gulf Coast: $2.15
- Rocky Mountains: $2.33
- West Coast: $2.93
