National average diesel fuel prices were $2.42 per gallon as of Aug. 3, 2020, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This is a less than 1-cent rise from the previous week with overall national average prices still down around 51 cents per gallon compared to same time last year.

So far in 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices have, on average, declined since then. National average gasoline prices are experiencing a gradual rise, according to the EIA.

Current average diesel prices by region have decreased week-over-week with the exceptions of the Rocky Mountain Region and West Coast (which was only a $0.001 rise), but all regional average diesel prices are still down year-over-year, according to the EIA:

  • East Coast: $2.42
  • Midwest: $2.30
  • Gulf Coast: $2.18
  • Rocky Mountains: $2.34
  • West Coast: $2.96
