Which Way Now? CAR Keynote Panel to Focus On New Realities
CAR 2022: No topics are more pressing at this year's Conference of Automotive Remarketing than industry economic and vehicle sales trends coming out of a pandemic and the changes in the consignment and auction markets.

The kickoff panel to CAR will focus on industry economics and sales trends, with insights from leading industry analysts, including Jonathan Smoke, chief economist for Cox Automotive.

The 2022 Conference of Automotive Marketing is bringing together some leading industry names next month as the event pivots to the major industry challenges ahead and resets back to its original calendar slot.
CAR 2022 — to be held at Caesars Las Vegas March 22-24 — is being co-produced by Bobit and the International Automotive Remarketers Alliance, with a partnering sponsorship and speakers from the National Auto Auction Association.
The opening keynote panels on March 23 and 24 will start off each day with topics top of mind for remarketers:
On March 23 from 1:40 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the session “What’s Ahead for the Remarketing Industry: A Look at Volatile, Shifting Economic and Market Dynamics,” moderator Charlie Vogelheim will engage leading industry economists and analysts on a wide-ranging discussion on about supply chain issues, chip shortages, vehicle values and pricing, and digital marketplaces in 2022 and 2023. Panelists include Tom Kontos of KAR Global, Jonathan Smoke of Cox Automotive, and Dr. Alex Yurchenko of Black Book.
“The session is about one of the biggest and most important parts of the auto market and the whole U.S. economy, and we’ll be talking about what we’re likely to see with remarketing trends and the wholesale market,” said Smoke, the chief economist for Cox Automotive. “Where do we go with used vehicle values? Used vehicle values saw the most inflation during the last year with supply chain issues combined with strong demand with vehicles in general.”
Attendees will gain valuable insights on a volatile and shifting remarketing landscape.
“The timing of the conference is interesting so close to the end of the first quarter. I will have data in hand about how the spring market is unfolding in the tax refund season.”
The next day, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Vogelheim will lead off with the keynote session, "Pandemic 2.0+: Temporary vs. Lasting Changes for Auctions," where leading auction figures will break down the effects of industry transformations on digital marketplaces, safety protocols, speed of transactions and vehicle evaluations, and new best practices. Panelists include Grace Huang, president of Manheim, R. Charles Nichols, president of Bel Air Auto Auction and president of its parent company, BSC America, and John Hammer, president of ADESA and chief commercial officer of KAR Global.
