Westport Innovations will offer a dedicated propane autogas system for the 2016 Ford F-150 powered by the 5.0L V-8 engine, the company announced.
The new system will be offered in addition to Westport’s compressed natural gas package for the 2016 F-150 as part of the Westport Wing Power System. Westport expects both systems to be certified to EPA and CARB standards.
Westport is taking advantage of Ford’s natural gas and propane gaseous prep package introduced for 2016 vehicles.
The propane system includes a 24-gallon fuel tank or optional 16-gallon tank and the fuel pump has a life expectancy of 150,000 miles. There are no additional scanning tools required for diagnostic service and it features simplified maintenance with a replaceable inline filter, according to the company. Westport’s LPG tank package is located underbody and doesn’t take up any truck bed space to maximize vehicle capacity.
