Medium-duty truck prices stabilized at the end of 2018, according to a Black Book report.
Wholesale values declined 0.3% for model years 2016-2017 and 0.2% for model years 2008-2015 in December 2018. The decline that the segments experienced in December was slightly smaller than the decline it experienced in November, marking the fourth consecutive month of improved wholesale prices for Class 4-5 trucks, according to Black Book.
The outlook for new truck orders remains strong, the firm noted. One factor driving up demand for new truck orders is the fact that certain businesses, such as contruction and delivery businesses, are currently thriving.
However, a rise in orders doesn’t always translate into an increase used supply, Black Book cautioned.
“Operators in these segments are not always replacing their trucks,” Black Book noted in its report. “Companies are finding second and third uses for these units to get as much life out of each unit as possible.
