U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) visited Mack Trucks’ Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO) facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania, on Friday.
During his visit, he drove the Mack LR Electric, which is Mack’s fully electric Class 8 refuse vehicle.
The Mack LR Electric offers zero tailpipe emissions, improved sustainability, and a quieter vehicle for refuse collection. The vehicle is assembled at LVO.
During his time at the facility, Sen. Casey toured the operation and discussed the recently passed CHIPS and Science Act. The act was supported by Sen. Casey and signed into law by President Joe Biden on Aug. 9.
The act incentivizes the investment in domestic jobs, technology, and manufacturing. Semiconductor chips are important to manufacturing Mack trucks, as some heavy-duty diesel-powered trucks requiring up to 1,500 chips per truck.
