Peterbilt announced the delivery of its zero-emissions Model 520EV to Republic Services, the first electric collection vehicle in the company’s California fleet as well as the first in Orange County, California.

The automated side-loader truck will provide recycling and waste collection services for the City of Santa Ana, California.

The 520EV is designed for commercial and residential applications and provides Republic Services with a quiet and environmentally friendly vehicle that supports the company’s goal to achieve a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Up to 1,100 residential trash bins can be collected by the 520EV on one charge, according to the truckmaker. 

It can complete a full day’s collection route on a single charge and utilizes regenerative braking during each stop to transfer energy back into its battery packs, resulting in extended operating range.
