In October 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalls are categorized as either pickup truck, van, and SUV recalls or medium- and heavy-duty truck recalls and the manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV

Chrysler

  • Recall Number: 30B

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler

  • Potential Units Affected: 32,863

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The instrument panel cluster may experience an internal short circuit and fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the instrument panel cluster, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 3, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 85B

  • Vehicles: 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,227,808

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control

  • Breakdown: Due to a software malfunction, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the ABS control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning Sept. 26, 2024.

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24C30

  • Vehicles: 2022 F-150

  • Potential Units Affected: 16,543

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The parking lights may flicker when the headlights are activated.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the LED Driver module, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed Sept. 26, 2024 on 2022 F-150, and Sept. 27, 2024 on 2022 Maverick. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. These vehicles were previously recalled for this same issue under 22V-686 and will need to have the new remedy performed.

  • Recall Number: 24S59

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Ford Maverick

  • Potential Units Affected: 144,516

  • Component: Backover prevention

  • Breakdown: The rearview camera image may freeze when the vehicle is in reverse.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the Connected Touch Radio (CTR) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 30, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S60

  • Vehicles: 2024 Bronco Spor

  • Potential Units Affected: 76

  • Component: Powertrain, electrical system

  • Breakdown: The body and power train control modules may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the body control module and powertrain control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 25, 2024. Vehicles in this recall that were previously recalled for the same issue under 24V-267 will need to have the new remedy performed.

  • Recall Number: 24S61

  • Vehicles: 2024 Ford Explorer hybrid

  • Potential Units Affected: 61

  • Component: Hybrid propulsion system, electrical system

  • Breakdown: The 12-Volt battery cable may chafe against the Belt-integrated Starter Generat (BiSG) and short circuit.

  • Solution: Dealers will install a tie strap between the battery cable and high voltage cable, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 21, 2024.

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N242468880

  • Vehicles: 2024 GMC Canyon

  • Potential Units Affected: 13,241

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The headlights may flicker while driving and while the vehicle is in park.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace a module in the headlight, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 28, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N242447990

  • Vehicles: 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV

  • Potential Units Affected: 449,671

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs.

  • Solution: The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 28, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N242466950

  • Vehicles: 2013-2019 Chevrolet Express Cutaway and GMC Savana Cutaway vehicles equipped with optional GM-provided body mounts

  • Potential Units Affected: 18,325

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: The brake line may have insufficient clearance to the body mounts, which can result in brake line damage that can lead to a brake fluid leak.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the brake line as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 4, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N242453720

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon

  • Potential Units Affected: 151

  • Component: Seatbelts

  • Breakdown: The left or right front seat may have a seat belt buckle attachment bolt that was not tightened properly.

  • Solution: Dealers will tighten the left and right front seat belt buckle attachment bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 4, 2024.

Rivian

  • Recall Number: FSAM-1532

  • Vehicles: 2025 R1S

  • Potential Units Affected: 33

  • Component: Vehicle speed control, steering

  • Breakdown: The steering column control module (SCCM) may be missing cruise control markings.

  • Solution: Rivian will inspect and replace the SCCMs as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 19, 2024.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Altec

  • Recall Number: CSN-3181

  • Vehicles: 2024 AT and TA series aerial devices, and ST series spray bodies

  • Potential Units Affected: 319

  • Component: Fuel system, diesel, service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: The fuel or brake lines may not be properly secured, which can cause the lines to become damaged and leak.

  • Solution: Altec will provide owners with instructions to inspect the brake and fuel lines. If improperly secured, Altec will provide a kit to secure the lines. If the lines are damaged, dealers will repair the fuel and brake lines. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 25, 2024.

  • Recall Number: CSN-3185

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Altec Aerial Device, Digger Derrick, and Pressure Digger

  • Potential Units Affected: 968

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The chassis ignition circuit may be overloaded, which can result in a blown fuse and cause an engine shutdown.

  • Solution: Altec will rewire the accessory circuit, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 8, 2024.

Autocar

  • Recall Number: DC-2405

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 DC (Legend)

  • Potential Units Affected: 80

  • Component: Engine and engine cooling

  • Breakdown: The horizontal exhaust diffuser may be improperly positioned and vent exhaust toward the CNG fuel tank.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and reposition the exhaust diffuser as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Oct. 25, 2024.

Daimler Trucks

  • Recall Number: F1009

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 Freightliner 108SD, 2022-2025 Freightliner 114SD, Freightliner Business Class M2, 2025 Freightliner eM2, 2020-2025 Western Star 49X, 2021-2025 Western Star 47X, and 2022-2025 Western Star 57X 

  • Potential Units Affected: 16,889

  • Component: Forward collision avoidance, exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist (ABA) event.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the ABA software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 9, 2024.

Elgin Sweeper

  • Recall Number: SB-0260

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Broom Badger

  • Potential Units Affected: 60

  • Component: Fuel system, diesel

  • Breakdown: The fuel system may allow the tank to be overfilled, which can cause a fuel leak.

  • Solution: Dealers will repair the fuel tank, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.

Motiv Power Systems

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2017-2020 E-450 and F-59 vehicles equipped with a Motiv Gen 4 EPIC and 2020-2023 F-53 and F-59 vehicles equipped with a Motiv Gen 5 EPIC powertrain

  • Potential Units Affected: 151

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The wiring harness may be missing a heat shrink insulator and retention clip. The 12-volt control wires may deteriorate and loosen, causing a loss of connection to the high voltage (HV) batteries and drive power.

  • Solution: Motiv field support technicians will inspect and correct any loose wiring, and replace damaged 12-volt control wires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 11, 2024.

Volvo Trucks

  • Recall Number: RVXX2407

  • Vehicles: 2025 VN and VHD

  • Potential Units Affected: 156

  • Component: Wheels

  • Breakdown: The wheel lug nuts may be improperly tightened.

  • Solution: Dealers will tighten the left-side lug nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed Sept. 19, 2024.
