SKOKIE, IL – Small changes to road networks can have a big impact on the bottom line for transportation companies. To help shippers and carriers keep on top of those changes, Rand McNally has enhanced its IntelliRoute and MileMaker software products with nearly 70,000 updates to its road network, toll roads, truck stops, and weigh station information.

Rand McNally’s IntelliRoute and MileMaker software can calculate mileages and routes in both practical miles and household goods (HHG) miles. Rand McNally is the exclusive supplier of HHG mileages, an industry standard that shippers and carriers regularly use to negotiate rates.

The 2008 update comes complete with new HHG miles and routes based on the new Household Goods Mileage Guide 19 rules established by the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA). The latest guide includes up-to-date data for new roads and newly accessible highways, including designated highways as defined by the Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA).

The Household Goods Mileage Guide 19 is based on roads that support a minimum of 80,000 lbs. and have lane widths of 10 feet. It takes into account trailers that are 53 feet in length, and 8.5 feet wide and have a vertical clearance of 13 feet 6 inches.

IntelliRoute and MileMaker software is compatible with UNIX, iSeries(AS/400), and Microsoft Windows.

The 2008 update for IntelliRoute and MileMaker — including new HHG miles and routes — will be available in November. The new Household Goods Mileage Guide 19 rules take effect on Jan. 31. For additional questions, visit www.go.randmcnally.com/2008update.
