The Center for Transportation Safety, a PHH Arval Company and a provider of driver training solutions and fleet risk management, is now offering its curriculum to the public through its CTS Driving Academy in Colorado. Previously, this training was only available to CTS’ private clients that include corporations, non-profits, municipalities, educational institutions, and state and federal governments.
“The Academy was developed in order to teach those interested in obtaining their commercial driver’s license (CDL) using CTS’ expert instructors who are certified in National Safety Council Defensive Driving,” said Tony Vinciguerra, vice president and general manager for CTS. “Proper training is critical to a safe and rewarding career in the trucking industry.”
In addition to the CDL training offered, the Academy also offers light-duty training, with both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, for drivers who want to improve their ability to operate passenger cars.
The American Truckers Association estimates that 96,000 new CDL drivers will be needed every year for the next 10 years to meet the growing demands of the trucking industry, according to PHH Arval. At current demand/hire rates, it’s estimated that there will be a shortage of 239,000 CDL drivers by 2022.
