Onmitracs has introduced two new and updated LTE or Wi-Fi gateway devices at its annual users conference in Dallas that are designed to help commercial drivers with additional duties such as customer service and order reconciliation, according to the telematics provider.
The new devices, which include the Active Mobile Gateway with Communications (AMG-C) and Intelligent Vehicle Gateway (IVG), allow commercial customers to perform workforce management duties from the field. They can more easily access applications using the company's telematics gateway, which offers LTE GPS tracking and driver performance monitoring without an in-cab display. The IVG has been updated from an earlier iteration.
The AMG-C is an in-cab device that uses the phone or tablet's connection to transmit vehicle and driver data. It allows bring-your-own-device pairing that lets drivers use Android phones or tablets to access the Omnitracs One fleet management platform and its applications. It also supports various connections such as Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, or secure Bluetooth. It can connect via a mobile hotspot to extend a driver's hand-held devices. It installs in about 15 minutes and supports over-the-air updates.
The IVG is a dedicated in-cab solution that's hardwired to the vehicle's engine control module to enhance security. Updates include enhanced performance on LTE networks, a more sensitve and durable touchscreen, improved Wi-Fi connectivity, and no re-wiring.
