Sales of vehicles from eight manufacturers to commercial fleets declined 10.8% to 48,024 units in October and reduced year-to-date sales to 3.4%, according to Automotive Fleet data.
A sharp reduction in sales of passenger cars mostly accounted for the decline. Commercial fleet sales have seen double-digit declines for three consecutive months. In October, sales of cars fell 41.2% to 6,481 vehicles. Meanwhile, sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs declined 2.9% to 41,543. Truck-based sales outnumbers car sales about eight to one.
For the first 10 months of 2016, fleet sales have increased 3.4% to 559,021 units. Truck-based sales have increased 6.6% to 473,208 units, while car sales have declined 11.2% to 85,813 units.
October reversed a sharper slide in September. Fleet sales declined 10% in August.
