Mexico's Truck Fleet Average Age Is 12+ Years

MEXICO CITY – Trucks in Mexico are 12 years old or older, according to statistics released by the Mexico Secretary of Transportation and Highways, as reported by Land Line magazine. The statistics reported by T21.com.mx, an online magazine that is focused on the transportation industry in Mexico, showed that only 24 percent of the trucks used in Mexico were made since 1996.
Of the 76 percent of the trucks that are 12 years or older, a “large percentage” — nearly one-third — is between 17 and 27 years old, T21 reported.
According to statistics from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) Foundation, the average age of units owned by OOIDA members is right around six years old. On average, U.S. fleets tend to turn their trucks over every five years.
