As the average price of diesel remains above $5 nationwide and in every region of the U.S., four of the five regions reported small price decreases this week. The national average was 1/10th of a cent lower than a week ago.
However, the weekly report also provides a year-over-year pricing comparison, showing the national average is now $2.16 higher than in 2025 and $1.79 higher than the same time in 2024.
This week, average prices decreased across four of the five regions. The regional price average decreases ranged from 2.6 cents in both the Gulf Coast and Rocky Mountain regions to 6.9 cents in the West Coast region. Only the Midwest region reported an increase, 7.3 cents.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is California, at $7.47 per gallon, and the least costly is Oklahoma, at $5 per gallon.
In the final week of April, oil prices surged above $100 per barrel.
