According to the most recent report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the national average cost of diesel fuel increased this week, while four of five regions also reported higher averages.
The national average price of diesel fuel in the U.S. per gallon increased by nearly 2 cents as of March 24, 2025. The average price of $3.57 is 47 cents cheaper than at the same time last year.
This week, regional average prices increased in four of the five regions. The increases ranged from 2 cents in the Gulf Coast region to nearly 4 cents in the Rocky Mountain region. The East Coast region average decreased this week by less than 1 cent. However, all region averages are lower than the same time a year ago.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $5.28 per gallon, and the least costly is Oklahoma, at $3.11 per gallon.
