AMSTERDAM, NY – For more than 55 years, H&M Equipment has been a household name in Amsterdam, NY, most well known for being a family-run operation. Established in 1957 by Robert Murphy and John Hirschfield, the company provides Fulton and Montgomery Counties with sales, parts, service and rental of agricultural and construction equipment. With the company’s soon-to-be third generation of ownership, there have been numerous changes but the Murphy name has not been one of them.
With the intent of diversifying their stock to offer a wider range of equipment to customers, H&M Equipment became a KIOTI dealer.
H&M Equipment has been a full-fledged family affair since its initial opening. The company, which is presently operated by David Murphy, son of Robert Murphy, will soon be transitioned to David’s two sons, Bill and Rodney. Both sons have grown up around the business, learning every aspect hands-on from their father and grandfather. According to Rodney Murphy, the greatest lesson he has learned over the years is to treat every customer like family.

“We get to know our customers personally and it helps us better understand their needs so we are able to recommend the best piece of equipment for the job. We strive to give each and every customer personalized service because we want them to feel like they are a part of our family,” Rodney explained.
Over the years, the company has made many changes to their inventory and added numerous new lines of equipment to keep up with evolving industry standards and the needs of local customers. In 2011, the Murphys decided to make yet another change. With the intent of diversifying their stock to offer a wider range of equipment to customers, H&M Equipment became a KIOTI dealer. “After learning about the capabilities of KIOTI tractors, we instantly knew the line would be a great success at our dealership,” explains Bill Murphy. “Stocking quality equipment at a competitive price has always been our top priority and KIOTI fit the bill.”
Since 2011, H&M Equipment has stocked the full line of KIOTI tractors, attachments and implements as well as the MECHRON® 2200 UTV. In the two years since becoming a KIOTI Dealer, H&M Equipment has seen tremendous success and a great amount of interest in KIOTI products from local customers. KIOTI sales at H&M Equipment have been very strong, even as a fairly new dealer.
H&M Equipment’s most popular KIOTI tractor models are the DK series. The most favored features of KIOTI tractors among customers include the loader lifting capabilities, the hydrostatic system, and the Compact Kab option. KIOTI’s 4-year warranty has been a great selling point with customers as well. According to the Murphys, many customers who had been long-time buyers of similar tractor brands converted to KIOTI after seeing demonstrations and test driving the equipment on-site. “Our customers know when we recommend KIOTI products it’s because we believe they have the highest quality and performance on the market,” states Rodney Murphy.
H&M Equipment’s experience with the KIOTI line has been a positive one. The company has experienced a great amount of growth and success in just two years, and according to customer feedback, it will likely continue. The company received a KIOTI Million Dollar Dealer Award in 2011 based on their KIOTI equipment sales and also became a 5-Paw Certified Dealer. This designation is given to dealers who excel in five evaluation areas including sales, service and parts, customer satisfaction, issue resolution and maintaining a well-kept facility. H&M Equipment is expecting to receive both awards in 2012 as well.
