FMCSA and FHWA Leaders Preview Mobile Fleet Management Tool
XRS technology showcased the company’s PreClear software system, which allows truck drivers to bypass weigh stations and submit regulatory information – electronically, without the need to stop mid-route for leaders of the FMCSA and FHWA.
XRS Corporation, a provider mobile fleet optimization software, highlighted its new XRS mobile platform this week for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Administrator Anne Ferro and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Administrator Victor Mendez at a public demonstration in Maryland.
XRS technology partner Drivewyze, along with the Maryland State Police, organized the event to showcase the company’s PreClear software system, which allows truck drivers to bypass weigh stations and submit regulatory information – including hours-of-service logs and weigh-in-motion data – electronically, without the need to stop mid-route.
XRS customer Allied Automotive Group also participated in the event and demonstrated how the Drivewyze system – which incorporates XRS – will simplify and improve compliance for its sizeable fleet of more than 2,300 car haulers and 300 lowboys. Allied owns a diverse vehicle transport fleet with a network that spans the North American continent.
The new XRS mobile platform, which entered general release in March 2013, runs on more than 50 types of devices and automatically transmits vehicle and operator data directly to amanagement dashboard, preparing for compliance with the pending MAP-21 compliance mandate for recording hours-of-service. Nearly 90 percent of drivers already use mobile devices, meaning there are no additional hardware costs associated with the XRS platform, and XRS Corporation has partnership agreements with the leading brands in mobile communications in both the U.S. and Canada, according to the company.
The company noted that there are no up-front hardware costs and no capital requirements. The subscription-based monthly service features varying pricing levels, dependent on package and functionality. Every XRS package includes an XRS Relay in-cab device that communicates via Bluetooth with the driver’s existing smartphone or tablet.
