This week, prices again increased nationally and across all five regions. The national average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel was $3.81 as reported Feb. 23.
According to the most recent report by the U.S. Energy Administration (EIA), the national average cost of diesel fuel at the start of this week increased by nearly 10 cents.

However, the weekly report now also provides a pricing comparison compared to two years ago, which shows the national average is now 24.9 cents lower.
This week, regional average prices increased in all five regions. The regional price average increases ranged from more than 7 cents in the Gulf Coast and Rocky Mountain regions to more than 8 cents in the West Coast region.
All five regions averaged higher prices than in the same period last year.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $5.20 per gallon, and the least costly is Louisiana, at $3.25 per gallon.
