According to the most recent report by the U.S. Energy Administration (EIA), the national average cost of diesel fuel at the start of this week decreased again this week, dropping by more than 4 cents from the previous week. Over the past two weeks, the national average price has dropped by nearly 11 cents.
The national average price per gallon of diesel fuel in the U.S., as reported Dec. 29, 2025, was $3.50 per gallon. That is a fraction of a cent lower than a year ago.
This week, regional average prices decreased in all five regions. The regional price average decreases ranged from just under 3 cents in the East Coast region to more than 7 cents in the Rocky Mountain region.
Only two regions still averaged higher prices than in the same period last year. The East Coast has the most significant difference, 5.8 cents higher than this time last year. The West Coast average is now 4.6 cents higher than a year ago.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $5.16 per gallon, and the least costly is Oklahoma, at $2.93 per gallon.
