The money that can be wasted operating a fleet of vehicles for a business is staggering. From idling vans burning costly fuel, to unsafe or irresponsible drivers, to rummaging through piles of paperwork, a company’s revenues can dry up quickly.

The man responsible for 120 vehicles at a Chicago-area mosquito control company put the brakes on his company’s fleet expenses with an easy to install Geotab plug-and-play fleet management solution suggested recently by Sprint.

Bill Quinn, senior supervisor of operations at Clarke Environmental, worked with Sprint account executive Logan Kent on how his company could manage its vehicle fleet in the most cost cost-effective, efficient and safe manner. Kent invited Quinn to a Sprint Connected Fleet seminar where a few solutions were presented. That program convinced Quinn to go with the Geotab solution.

One of thesolutions in the Sprint Connected Fleet portfolio, Geotab allows managers at Clarke to see the location of their vehicles in real-time, know and document where the vehicles have been, and how they are being driven. Using reports and alerts from the Geotab solution, supervisors can coach drivers for safer, more fuel efficient driving and drivers also self-correct with instant feedback if a rule is broken.

“Before going with the Geotab solution, we had a mishmash of solutions developed by our IT team, including the use of handsets, to track our vehicles,” Quinn said. “Today we get much better monitoring not only where our vehicles are but instantly knowing how they’re being driven as well as the health of the vehicle in real time.”

Clarke Environmental, headquartered in Roselle, Ill., said it expects to save nearly $100,000 yearly on fuel, maintenance, insurance costs from accidents, and other fleet ownership expenses with the implementation of the easy-to-use solution.

Sprint went to its Try-Buy program once Clarke decided that Geotab was going to be the product they’d potentially move forward with. The Try-Buy team in partnership with Sprint Telecom Sales provided two GO6 devices for a three-week period. Kent’s team hosted weekly calls with Quinn and STS helped troubleshoot and answer any questions. The trial was successful and Clarke moved forward on a larger implementation.
