California Utility Supports Natural Gas Truck Funding Program
The Southern California Gas Co. has started an incentive funding program designed to help fleets in its service area replace diesel trucks with zero emission natural gas trucks.

Late last year, SoCalGas offered qualified fleets interested in trying out natural gas with the opportunity to test drive a 12L natural gas truck. The truck was displayed at the 2018 ACT Expo in Long Beach, Calif.

The Southern California Gas Co. is supporting customers who are applying for an incentive funding program designed to help fleets in the South Coast Air Quality Management District replace diesel trucks with zero emission natural gas trucks.
Fleet owners whose applications are accepted will receive $100,000 towards the purchase of the new trucks, according to a release. Fleets will receive incentives in the funding program through the Carl Moyer Program, which provides grant funding for cleaner-than-required engines and equipment and is administered by the South Coast Air Quality Management District .
The program grant is competitive, which means funds are distributed on a rolling basis until all money is awarded, according to a release.
Last year, the grant program was expanded to include infrastructure projects such as fueling and charging stations. SoCalGas representatives are available to assist with applications for compressed natural gas fueling stations in addition to applications for new trucks. Last year, its customers received funding for 116 new near-zero natural gas trucks through the program.
The transportation sector is responsible for about 40% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions and more than 80% of the state’s NOx, or smog-forming, emissions, according to the release.

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
